House. 1627 (former list) and other C17 builds. For John Saville (ibid).
Dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Front is L-shaped, one-bay gabled
wing to left projecting, main range 3 bays, the left bay gabled. Main range: off-
centre gabled open porch with basket arch supported by columns with imposts.
Benches inside to either side and inner nail-studded plank door in Tudor-arched
surrounds. Double-chamfered mullion windows: to right of porch of 5 lights; to
left, of 6 lights with transom, leaded glazing, hoodmould and with 2 light window
above. Gable has shaped kneelers, chamfered ashlar coping and finial. Stack to
right of porch. Wing: quoins. One 5-light window to each floor, one light of
lst-floor window retaining glazing bars. Shaped kneelers, shaped ashlar coping
and finial. Rear, showing 3 ranges: left range has chamfered plinth, chamfered
segmental-arched doorway with notched skewbacks and voussoirs, 4-light window to
right, dripmould, 3-light window above and gutter-spout to right. Central range
has lst-floor taking-in door with interrupted jambs and a gable stack. Right
range has a door and window above, both late C19-and cornice. Left return: 2
shouldered external stacks. Windows, to left of 2 lights with hoodmould and 2-
light window over, to right of 2 lights, and in between of 4 lights with hoodmould
now doorway, and 4-light window over. Interior: main room has segmental-arched
voussoired fireplace with roll moulding; C17 plasterwork to ceilings, beams and
top of walls (part damaged); and Saville arms in window glazing.
