Millmaster's house, now in 2 occupations (Nos 5 and 6) and attached
row of 4 cottages now forming 3 dwellings (Nos 2, 3 and 4). Early
C19. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2-storey cottages,
3-storey house. House to left of row has front-facing gable. 2 bays
of tall 12-pane sash windows; those to 2nd floor have arched heads
and Gothic glazing. Coped gable with ridge stack. Rear has 2-storey
lean-to and arched window flanked by lunette (blind) to 2nd floor of
gable which is coped with stack. Left-hand return has 5 bays of sash
windows to ground floor and 1st floor with lunettes to 2nd floor, all
blind except that to 3rd bay which has Gothic glazing. Doorway with
overlight set in 3rd bay. 2 lateral stacks. Right-hand return has
similar fenestration with 2 lateral stacks. Cottages attached to right,
single-cell, double-depth. Each has doorway with tie-stone jambs and
a 3-light flat-faced mullioned window with slightly recessed mullions
to each floor. 3 ridge stacks. Rear of No 2 has 2-light window the
lintel painted " DIRY " now much faded. A good example of a large
Master's house attached to his employees' more humbler dwellings
immediately adjacent to the mill.
