Garden seat. c.1733-40. By William Kent. Limestone ashlar and rubble, set
against garden wall with six half-columns in recesses. Limestone rubble wall of
approximately 30 metres attached to 3 kitchen garden walls, dating from late C17
to early C19. Of coursed limestone and approximately 30 x 40 metres to
north-east. Similar wall with inner wall of Flemish bond brick with flared
headers, approximately 100 x 55 metres, to west: semi-circular stone arch over
mid C18 wrought-iron gateway to west and C17 pointed chamfered doorway to east.
Similar C17 square-headed doorway to churchyard in walls approximately 30 x 90
metres and with Dovecote (q.v.) to south-west. Part of the landscape gardens
later laid out by William Kent between 1733 and 1740.
