railings with flanking walls
approx.20m SW of S porch of
Church of St. James
GV II
Gateway. Mid C18. Probably by Kent. Limestone ashlar. Gateway has roll-moulded
pointed arch with simple capitals: wrought-iron gates with decorative overthrow.
Flanked by C19 buttresses and low wall surmounted by wrought-iron railings. The
Gothic gateway has similar treatment to the garden seat, which is attached to
the garden walls (q.v.), attributed to Kent.
