Stables. c.1738, probably by William Kent. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar
quoins and dressings; gabled Welsh slate roof; moulded ashlar ridge stacks. 2
storeys; symmetrical 12-window range. Pedimented centre has semi-circular arches
to tall central carriageway and flanking doorways with C19 beaded double-leaf
doors; 3-pane sashes flank apron above. Gibbs surrounds and overlights with
thick glazing bars to stable doors. Stone lintels over 6-pane sashes with thick
glazing bars to left of centre and mid/late C19 six-pane sashes to right; 3-pane
sashes with thick glazing bars on first floor. To rear is similar elevation with
C18 two-light leaded casements on first floor and jib-crane to loft door.
Ogee-domed cupola. Interior: 3-bay quadripartite vaulting to carriageway. Fine
stalls with ball finials to stabling and looseboxes; panelled doors. Partial
inspection only. Subsidiary features: limestone rubble walls with moulded coping
enclose yard to left and is joined to Rousham House (q.v.).
