2 cottages. C17 (Elm Cottage to right) and late C18 (Wall Cottage). Squared
chalk brought to course, chalk quoins, sarsen base, brick buttresses to Wall
Cottage; thatched roof, brick stacks. 2-unit plan to Elm Cottage, one-unit to
Wall Cottage. 1 1/2 storey. 3-window range. Timber lintels over C20 casements
and doors. Beneath eaves of Elm Cottage are chalk blocks cut and shaped to
produce circular and lozenge shapes with sarsen infill. Single ridge stack; C19
lateral stack to rear of Elm Cottage; half-hipped roof. Interior of Elm
Cottage; chamfered bressumer over fireplace, and chamfered and stopped beam to
left hand room; timber framed partition; 2-bay, closed collar- truss with
central access. Artificial stone and concrete tile extension to rear of Elm
Cottage.
