House, mid to late C17 and early C18, rubble stone with stone tiled
roof, hipped to north west wing. Coped south gable with ashlar end
wall stack and ashlar ridge stacks to main range and wing. 2
storey and attic, 'L'-plan. Chamfer-moulded mullion windows with
hoodmoulds and leaded lights. West front: Main range to ridge
stack with 3 hipped dormers and flush quoins to south end first
floor and north end straight joint. 2 first floor 3-light windows,
set to right, ground floor 4-light and 3-light windows set evenly
each side of later C17 Tudor arched doorway with carved imposts.
To left of straight joint, 2-light windows to both floors, upper
window without hoodmould. Wing projects with small 2-light ground
floor window and single light upper window in return wall and 3-
light window to each floor of west end wall. Straight joint
between return wall and end wall. Rear: main range shows evidence
of several stages of building; door, similar to front door, is on
axis, but with straight joint to right. Ground floor right side
window, 4 lights, has relieving arch over. 4-light left side
window. First floor 3-light window to right has hoodmould, 3-light
to centre and 2-light to left do not. No straight joint to
correspond with ridge stack, but continuous walling with blocked 2-
light and one C20 window to first floor, right end. Ground floor
obscured by lean-to (to be removed 1984). South end has additional
lower ranges, one 2 storey, one window range with south end stack,
walling partly continuous with main range but much altered c1923
and 1983. Further range with south end outside stair added 1983.
Interior: main house has fine Tudor arched stone fireplaces each
end.
