7/37 Sevington House

House remodelled 1935 by G. Parker-Pearson from C17 house, then two
cottages. Rubble stone with stone slate roof, end stacks and ridge
stack. 1½ storeys. Original house had gable to left and two to
centre, one of centre gables has been built out as porch bay and a
fourth gable added to right. All the new work is in re-used stone.
Left end has ovolo-moulded 3-light below and 2-light in gable, both
with hoodmoulds and probably orginal, then a ground floor 3-light
recessed cyma-moulded window with hoodmould, in place of a door and
C20 three-light stair-light to right under eaves. Projecting porch
has reused 2-light recessed cyma-moulded window in gable and reused
oak-plank door in moulded oak frame below. C20 hood on brackets.
To right 2-light recessed cyma-moulded mullion window to ground
floor and gable above, both original. To right, ground floor small
oval light and gable above with reused similar 2-light cyma-moulded
window. Within porch is moulded stone C17 inner doorway. Rear has
original gabled wings with end stacks and wall-face gable to right,
but between gables and at left end are C20 additions.
Interior has heavy beamed ceilings throughout and much imported
woodwork. In hall oak turned balusters to stairs, said to be C17
from Somerset. Original timber-lintel fireplace. Dining-room to
east has original timber-lintel fireplace, beams and joists.
Imported C17 panelling. Lounge at west end has imported Tudor
arched fireplace inscribed Thomas Taylor 1571. Upstairs east room
has original bolection-moulded stone fireplace and shelf, west room
has imported moulded Tudor-arched fireplace.
