Description

GREAT FINBOROUGH HIGH STREET GREEN
TM 05 NW

2/122 Barn, 20m north-west of
- West End Farmhouse

GV II

Barn, late C16 with extensions of early C17 and C19. Original building of 5
bays, extended by 4 bays northwards in C17, and doubled in size in mid C19 by
addition of a parallel range to the north with two gabled porches. Timber-
framed and weatherboarded, corrugated iron roof, once thatched. Boarded barn
doors of C19/C20 at bays 3 and 6 from the west. Good C16 and C17 close-
studding with middle rails. The C16 roof has wind-braced clasped purlins, and
the C17 roof 2 tiers of butt-purlins. Bays 7,8 and 9 originally (in C17) had
an upper floor and were probably designed as stabling.
