House, now optician's consulting rooms, railing and gatepiers.
c1840. Possibly by George Jackson. Brick with stucco front and
hipped slate roof with 4 rendered side wall stacks. Plinth,
moulded eaves band. Slightly recessed centre. 2 storeys;
3-window range of plain sashes with moulded surrounds. Central
Doric portico with entablature and pediment, covering
half-glazed double door and fanlight. On either side, a larger
plain sash with moulded surround. To right, a single-storey
porch, formerly pedimented, with moulded 6-panel door.
Outside, a renewed wrought-iron railing with ashlar plinth,
and at each end, a battered square pier with plinth and
Soanian pediment. One C19 wrought-iron gate. Garden front has
recessed central entrance bay with a round-arched glazing bar
stair window with voussoirs and keystone, and below, a doorway
with voussoirs. Above again, a single light box dormer. To
left, a 3-storey bay with 2 glazing bar sashes on each floor,
one of them reglazed, the second floor windows being smaller.
To right, a 2-storey hipped bow window two 12-pane curved
sashes above and 2 similar 15-pane sashes below. All these
windows have lintels with voussoirs and keystones.
