This contributor came across the fine Georgian building, surrounded by modern housing estates, at midday on Sunday, May 26, 2019. Built around 1800, during the reign of George III, it would have pre-dated the branch line railway to Barnard Castle (1862-1962), of which there is little evidence today. The pub is still functional and is set within pleasant grounds and a retaining wall on its eastern flank. The large beech tree on the north-east side of the building is of similar vintage!
