2 houses and office. c1840. Flemish bond brickwork with red
stretchers and blue headers and decorative slate hipped roof.
3 storeys with basement and `L' plan. 2 narrow identical
terrace houses and larger unit on corner with Gold Street.
High Street elevation has modillioned eaves cornice and frieze
of foliate scroll ornament in stucco. 3 large red brick
stacks. The second floor has 3 square plain double-hung sash
windows in segmental headed moulded stucco surrounds. The
first floor has 3 semicircular headed plain double-hung sashes
in similar moulded stucco surrounds. Deep stucco band above
ground floor. The ground floor of Nos 78 & 80 each have a
plain double-hung sash window in stucco surround and similar
surrounds to doors which have reactangular fanlights and stone
steps. Basement areas with wrought-iron railings and a
segmental headed window to light each basement. No.78 has 5
panel door and No.80 has contemporary door of 2 vertical
panels. No.82 has similar door surround, C20 glazed panel door
and small paned shopfronts with slight bow. Corner to Gold
Street is quadrant curve, slightly recessed. Second floor of
Gold Street elevation has 2 blind window recesses and one 12
paned double-hung sash. First floor has 2 semicircular headed
blind recesses and one plain double-hung sash in semicircular
headed opening.
Rear elevation of No.82 has, on the second floor, 2 infilled
openings and a small paned double-hung sash, all with apron
panels beneath. The first floor has 2 semicircular headed
blind recesses and staircase window with semicircular head and
radiating glazing bars. The rear of each terrace house has 2
small paned double-hung sashes on first 2 floors, one of which
has semicircular head as stair window. Ground floors have a
single double-hung sash and rear door.
INTERIOR: No.80 has dogleg staircase with column newels and
stick balusters and contiunous curved soffit. Front windows
have internal folding shutters and much period detail
including panelled door. Pilastered fireplace in front ground
floor room. Entrance hall has rear arch to staircase on
decorative corbels.
