Nos.11 AND 12
GV II
Semi-detached houses. 1848-50. Developed by James Goodbody and
James Wagstaffe and probably designed by James Wagstaffe.
Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, stucco, roof of slate. Three
storeys over basement, three-window range, the fronts to
Highbury Crescent set back twice. Basement and ground floor
stuccoed. Steps up to porch in outer bay with Greek Doric
columns, entablature and, in the case of no 12, balustrade
above; doorcase has cornice and overlight. The innermost bay
has a shallow bow window of three lights to basement and
ground floor, with balustrade above; second bay has
flat-arched window with moulded stucco architrave. First-floor
windows are flat-arched with moulded stucco architrave and
cornice and consoles to two inner bays, the innermost
tripartite, and round-arched with moulded stucco architrave to
outer bay. Both the outer bays have been raised beyond their
original height; that to no 12 retains its original cornice.
Third-floor windows to two inner bays are round-arched with
moulded stucco architraves, grouped in threes to inner bays
and twos to second bays; bracketed and boxed eaves; hipped
roof with stacks to party walls and between second and outer
bays.
