Row of 3 houses. Early C19, with C20 alterations. Squared
coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs, with a
ridge and 2 gable stacks. 3 storeys above cellars, and one bay
to each house, with Nos 7 & 9 forming a mirrored pair with
linked doorways and with No.11 (at the right) having a doorway
to the left. All the openings have plain stone surrounds. No.7
has glazing bar sashes, and the other houses have 6-pane
sashes. All have 6-panel doors (some may be C20 replacements)
and overlights. The cellar openings, below the ground-floor
windows, are blocked, but there is a coal hole with flap at
the left. The doorways are approached up 3 external steps. Set
into the front wall of No.7 is a plaque inscribed: 'IN THIS
HOUSE WAS BORN ON THE 7TH DAY OF JANUARY 1832. SIR WILLIAM
TURNER, K.C.B.,F.R.S.,D.Sc.,LL.D.,D.C.L., KNIGHT OF THE ROYAL
PRUSSIAN ORDER POUR-LE-MERITE, PROFESSOR IN AND PRINCIPAL AND
VICE-CHANCELLOR OF EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY.'
