2/195 Rhotteridge Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Early to mid C18. Flemish bond brick, stone slate
half-hipped roof, central brick stack. 2 storeys, 4 windows.
Central door with two 2-light cyma-mullioned windows either side;
all casements. First floor has four 2-light cyma-mullioned
windows. The 3 bays to right are brick with rubblestone footings
and part of corner to right has rubblestone with quoins. Straight
joint and different brick to left bay. Rear has blocked central
door and C20 casements either side and to first floor. Straight
joints in brick evidence of end bays being later than 2-central
bays.
Interior: Ceiling beams are chamfered with stops, first floor room
to left has bolection moulded fireplace. Door in C20 extension has
re-used painted glass by Dora Carrington 1920s. A house of at
least two phases, an early C18 rebuild of an earlier house.
