Description

TM 07 NW THELNETHAM MARKET WESTON ROAD

2/82 Hill Cottage

II

House. Late C16 and early C19. One storey and attics: 2-cell form. Timber-
framed and plastered, with a thatched roof. A chimney-stack, placed
externally at the north end, has been enclosed by a very small timber-framed
extension. One 3-light C20 casement window, 2 small-paned old windows, one
with cast-iron casements, one with square-leaded panes: one eyebrow dormer.
Plank door. The 2-bay room on the north side, which includes the entry, has
exposed framing inside; main ceiling beam with 3" chamfer and curved stops;
unchamfered joists set flat. Straight braces halved against the studs, and an
original clamp supporting the upper floor. Probably a rafter roof, without
lengthwise strengthening. To the south, an apparently rebuilt section, with
C19 ceiling and roof, and a marked change at plinth level.
