Cottage and reading room, now shop. mid C18, partly rebuilt late C19/early C20;
cottage extended C20. Brick in Flemish bond with some flared headers; timber
framing with brick infill; old plain-tile roof with brick stack. 2-unit plan,
extended to rear. One storey plus attic; shop single storey. 2-window cottage
front (to right), in chequer brick with dentil eaves course and segmental
arches, has 2-light plank-shuttered casements flanking a central window, which
replaced a former doorway, and 2 gabled dormers. Shop (to left) is in plain
brickwork with 2 large plank-shuttered casements. Shared central stack. Right
end wall has a timber-framed gable and returns to a C20 rear extension. Part of
the estate built c.1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt.
