Filemakers' manufactory immediately to the north-west of No 11

Filemakers' manufactory preserved as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Early C19. Sandstone, Welsh and stone slate roofs. Irregular
range of 4 contiguous small buildings set at right angles to the
street, mostly single storey, comprising from left to right:
filemakers' workshop, warehouse and packing shop, hardening and
tanging shop, cart shed.
Workshop: rubble stone plinth, framed door to right, continuous
row of small-pane wood casements to left. Single pitch roof coped
at left end. Central brick stack.
Warehouse: 2 storeys. Boarded door to right under stone lintel;
central 5-light casement with a later window immediately above.
Hardening shop: boarded door and garage door; to right the tanging
shop has boarded door and open wood-framed 3-light window with
internal shutter; brick chimneys to ridge.
Cart shed is open fronted with central column built up in grindstones.
Interiors: workshop retains 8 workplaces or 'stitheys' set along the
window, each with a stone stump on which the files were cut, hearth
to rear. Workbench in packing shop. 2 hearths with brick firehoods
in tanging shop.
