A Grade II* Listed Building in Lewes, East Sussex

Southover Grange, Lewes

Uploader's Comments

The home of the diarist John Evelyn in the early 17th century, this attractive Elizabethan manor house was built in 1572 for William Newton, Steward to the Earl of Dorset.

Constructed from Caen limestone taken from Lewes Priory after its dissolution and demolition in 1537, the stone was originally imported from Normandy in the early Medieval period.
