Over the Chancel Arch is the red background colour of the Rood. The white spaces show where the crucifix and the 2 figures at the foot of the cross (the Virgin Mary and St. John) were fixed. The 6 angels are holding the instruments of torture and crucifixion - the scourge, the cross, the spear and the sponge of a reed.
