II
Row of 6 cottages. c.1800, altered. Knapped flint with dressings of red brick,
gable walls of brick (rendered), rear wall of tarred weather-boarding; slate roof.
Rectangular double-depth plan, each cottage single-fronted. Two storeys with
cellars, 6 bays; symmetrical facade with doorways to Nos.1 and 6 at the left and
right-hand ends respectively, and coupled doorways to Nos. 2 & 3 and Nos.4 & 5:
the first 3 have altered porches and doors, but the others have light wooden
gabled porches (now mostly in disrepair) and Nos.5 and 6 have flush-panelled
doors; the windows at ground floor are flat-arched 3-light casements, those to
Nos.5 and 6 with openings in the centre light and the others variously altered;
those at 1st floor are 2-light casements, with horizontal glazing bars at Nos.4, 5,
and 6, but the others altered; each cottage has a low cellar window; and all
these openings have brick surrounds. The eaves project, and the roof has 3 ridge
chimney stacks. The weather-boarded rear wall has mostly 2-light casements
(and 3 small single-storey extensions, which are not of special interest). Interiors
not inspected.
