Two houses, now all one shop. C17 and C18, greatly altered. No.1 of brick, No.3
timber-framed with brick nogging and cladding, mostly painted white; red tile
roofs. Single-depth linear plan (plus modern additions to the rear which are not
of special interest). Two storeys, with 3 and 4 1st-floor windows respectively;
the ground floor of both has been replaced by a continuous modern shop front,
but at 1st floor No.1 has 3 closely grouped segmental-headed windows (a blind
window flanked by 2-light casements), and No.3 has a horizontal sliding sash at
the left, end and 3 square sashed windows with wide margin panes and exposed
boxes. No.1, which is slightly lower, has a roof with dentilled eaves and a hip at
the left end; No.3 has a steeply-pitched roof. The right-hand gable wall has an
external chimney stack, and to the rear of this some exposed timber framing
including sill, mid-rail, studs, and one brace (all of light scantling), and the
gable is tile-hung. Interior: No.3 contains the remains of the timber-framed
former rear wall at ground floor, and the wall plates and some other timbers at
1st floor; the former inglenook firepace is said to survive behind modern built-in
shop fittings.
