Farmhouse. Later C18, the lower part a restoration of early C18 farmhouse.
Coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone, coarser in the outbuilding. Welsh slate
roof with tiled ridge, stone stacks, copings and kneelers; pantiles on outbuild-
ing. Linear plan. Main south-west front in 2 parts. Taller 2-storey, 3-bay
left part has central boarded door with overlight and inner paterae frieze.
12-pane sash windows. End chimneys. Lower right part, (the refronted earlier
house) 2 storeys, 2 windows. Half-glazed door at right. 3 replaced sash
windows with glazing bars and a large modern casement at left. Ridge stack.
Lower outbuilding at right probably early C18. Stable door at left, otherwise
blank. Moulded eaves; gable copings and square kneelers. Rear of main house
shows round-arched stair window and two 12-pane sashes. Ground floor windows
altered and porch added.
Historical note: Airyholme Farm was the boyhood home of Captain James Cook of
the 'Endeavour'.
