House, now hotel. Early C19 with C19 and C20 alterations and
additions. Coursed squared limestone; ashlar porch; coursed
rubble to side and rear wings. Artificial slate roofs which
are hipped to main range; stone and rebuilt brick stacks to
rear left of main range and on
rear and side wings. Early C19 main range has contemporary
wings to rear and right side; C19 service wings with C20
alterations to rear and right side.
3-storey 3-window range; first floor has three 6/6-pane sashes
in flat unmoulded stone surrounds; 3 similar 3/6-pane sashes
to second floor. Ground floor has two C19 plate glass sashes
in similar surrounds with stone cills. Later C19 porch to
right has half-glazed door under decorative fanlight in
round-headed opening with moulded stone reveal; plinth,
moulded stone cornice with blocking course. House has plat
bands over ground and first floors; cill bands to first and
second floor windows. Moulded stone cornice and coped parapet.
Wing to right, set back approximately 0.5m, is 3-storey
4-window range. Three 6/6-pane sashes in plain reveals and one
former sash now fire escape door to first floor; four C20
six-pane windows with top-hung lights to second floor. Four
6/6-pane sashes and one C20 door to ground floor. Cill bands
to first and second floors; moulded stone cornice and coped
parapet.
INTERIOR has cantilevered stone staircase with moulded soffit;
stick balusters, mahogany handrail. Stone paved staircase
hall. Ground floor front left has large timber chimneypiece
with composition decoration; enriched moulded cornice. Ground
floor rear left has timber chimneypiece with composition
decoration and large C19 iron grate; run cornice. Mock
Jacobean bar to ground floor front right has beam with big
chamfer, possibly inserted. Other rooms not inspected. C19
two-storey service wing to right and C19 or C20 service wing
to rear have C20 alterations.
