House, now hotel. c1870; enlarged, 1891 and 1908. By Edward
Ould. Brick with ashlar dressings; tile roof with brick
stacks. L-plan. Arts and Crafts style. 2 storeys with attic;
garden front of 5 gabled bays and full-height, 4-bay ballroom
to left. Coped gables. Varied fenestration, mostly sashed or
mullioned windows; 2-storey canted bay to left of C20 bowed
extension. Ballroom has quoins and parapet; tall 4-light
transomed windows with enriched friezes; gabled bay window to
left and canted bay window to right end. Enriched rainwater
heads and downspouts. Rear similar, with C20 single storey
extensions; square tower to angle has stair window and large
ashlar oriel; gabled porch to left. INTERIOR: rich decoration;
hall has rich plasterwork, ingle fireplace, gallery and
lantern; ballroom has moulded plaster ceiling, gallery to 2
sides, panelling, end fireplace with enriched panelling and
gallery over.
