This is the state of the entrance in November 2011. I found the following info...

"In 2001, the left pier was damaged and partly destroyed by a lorry and no repairs appear to have been made. The iron gates have since disappeared leaving only the pillars."

The left pier does not now exist and one assumes the gates are long gone as tat!
