Mid C19. Built either for the Bishop of Bristol and Gloucester or for
J G Frith. Dry stone wall about 6 ft high with soldier course. The 2
principal features are a gate to north-east of Beaudesert Park School
and an arch over footpath leading to Highlands Cottage, Journeysend and
West View (Pinfarthing). The gate is in dressed stone with a Tudor archway
and battened door. The surround is chamfered with Tudor rose ornament.
Weathered coping above and carved panel with inscription "Welcome". The
arch is plain with large voussoirs and a brick lined tunnel vault for
the path above.
The wall continues downhill to just above the former stable block. At
the lodge it has quadrant railings flanking the entrance to the avenue
of Wellingtonias.
