Description

WOOLASTON STATION ROAD, Plusterwine
ST 59 NE
(south side)
10/279 Plusterwine House
7.8.54
- II
Farmhouse. Early C17 and C18. Pebble-dash, plain tile hipped roof, small brick
stacks to outer hipped ends. An L-plan house, possibly originally a compact block,
with stack centrally on back face of this block. Entrance front, inner faces of
'L': left is 2½ storeys, one C20 2-light sash over two 2-light 12-pane sashes to
segmental heads, and to right, in corner, 6-panel door, part glazed; the return,
right is 2-windowed, with 4-pane sashes, but one of these, bottom right was formerly
a door, and centred here is C20 pair of glazed doors: an old stack appears to have
been cut off from this wing. The other faces are with various casements and an
occasional sash window, and the exterior seems to have undergone substantial
modification. Interior: ground floor, off-centre left one room has 4-compartment
ceiling with moulded beams and stopped joists; at first floor are very heavy beams
with stopped chamfers. Adjacent to compartmental-ceiled room is tight spiral stair
through two floors, the upper flight being in solid wood treads. Roof structure
not inspected.
