Balustrades, gates and gate piers, steps. Dated 1903. Stone, cast iron gates.
Continuous run of stone balustrading on west and south sides of Sedbury Park (qv)
as terrace edging, with small projecting hemicycle opposite centre of west front,
and opening with wide flight of 3 steps opposite centre of south side. Balustrade
in square balusters and some plain return panels set to plinth of varying depth
to accommodate changes of level. Most panel piers with ball finials. At south
west corner pair of gate piers c 650 mm square and c 3 metres high to moulded caps
and with incised panels to faces, over plinth, and part heavy cast iron gates to
dipped centre; left pier carries inscription 'WHM' and right 'MCMIII'. These
balustrades are important to the setting of the house.
