Public house. Early C17. Timber framed and plastered with pegtile roofs. Of 2
storeys and attics and of 'L' plan form with 2 storey crosswing at east end.
Large rear extensions and single storey pegtile gabled extensions at both ends.
Roof is half-hipped at west end and hips down to crosswing ridgeline. 2 gabled
white boarded and casement windowed dormers in front slopes and stack against
east wall and in baffle entry position, off-centre on ridgeline. Front has two
3 light C20 casements with small panes, in the main over a peg tile lean-to,
part of which forms an open porch on oak posts with a fixed seat on the flank.
Behind this is an old 3 light casement with small panes. This part is decorated
with C17 style modern carved ornament. The crosswing has C19 bargeboards and
one double hung sash window with small panes over a canted bay window with a
hipped pegtile roof. Internally the substantial frame is exposed with
indications of a stack bay with inglenook and large mantel beam. The crosswing
was unjettied. RCHM 32.
