House, now restaurant and shop. Late C16 with later alterations and additions.
Timber-framed on high plinth of dressed sandstone blocks; plain tile roof; brick
ridge stack of cruciform section. U-shaped plan: 3-bay baffle-entry plan main
range with west projecting cross-wings. 2 storeys; gabled cross-wings to left
and right with jettied first floors and moulded bressumers supported on angle
brackets. Decorative framing to first floor of wings comprised of small square
panels with square blocks at the intersections containing sunken quatrefoils.
The left-hand cross-wing has a jettied gable with ovolo-moulded tie beam, angle
brackets, and small square panel framing. 1:3:1 window front: C20 casements, C20
shop front to ground floor of right hand wing. C20 door to left of centre.
Carriageway immediately left of right hand wing with exposed close studded
framing in the side walls. This gives access to the rear where there is a
mid-C17 wing of square panel framing. Interior: exposed close studded wall
framing and ceiling beams.
