C13. Four bay aisled nave with concealed clerestory and with low 2 stage
C19 west tower. Three bay chancel with vestries on north side. Rubble with
stone tile roof. Several early C14 cusped headed 2 light windows, some copies.
Plain round headed doorway to north with impost bands, looks C12 but is probably
C17. Projecting gabled south porch with small stair to west and waggon roof
with ridge rib.
C13 interior. Round piers with wide moulded imposts carved with dog-tooth,
pointed double chamfer arcades. Two light clerestory windows, 2 to south,
3 to north. Three light reticulated east window. Trefoil rere-arches on
north side, depressed pointed rere-arches to south. South aisle chapel has
trefoil piscina and trefoil headed squint (probably C19 restoration). Two
cusped ogee headed tomb niches on north side with palm trees forming crockets
and flanking crocketted pinnacles (wall thickened to outside). False hammerbeam
chancel roof. Moulded and panelled'nave roof. C17 memorial to south-west
to Katharine Hedges died 1649: marble with swagged aides and segment moulded
cap, carved cartouche over; baroque style. Two hatchments.
The graveyard is well stocked to south, note especially numerous C18 headstones
with relief carvings and a number of chest tombs.
