1/70 Copley Bridge Toll House
II
Toll bridge house, now workshop and garage. Early C19. Hammer-dressed stone,
stone slate roof and stone ridges. Elongated octagon in plan. Single storey
with hipped roof, central stack diagonally placed, scalloped eaves board. In
each face a window, formerly with Gothic glazing except the face directly to the
road which has shallow stone hood formerly sheltering the toll board (currently
said to be loose inside the building) dated 1833 and bearing the initials of
B. W. Kennett-Dawson, who was owner of the surrounding estate. Copley Bridge
Bar is one of the 15 toll bridges which remain in North-East England. (Halifax
