Gatepier and attached wall. C17. Gatepier of limestone ashlar. Walls of Flemish
garden wall bond red brick with C19 terracotta coping. Gatepier approx. 2.5m.
high has elaborately moulded plinth and cornice and shaped sunk panel to each
face. Wall approx. 2.5m. high, reduced to 2m. to front and left return side.
Together with the right gatepier and attached wall (q.v.) they form a large
walled enclosure approx. 35m. square, probably originally a kitchen garden of
Chesterton House, demolished in 1802.
