Gatepier and attached wall. Mid/late C17. Gatepier of limestone ashlar. Wall of
Flemish garden wall bond red brick with C19 terracotta coping. Gatepier approx.
2.5m. high has elaborately moulded plinth and cornice. Shaped sunk panel to each
face. Wall approx. 2m. high, reduced from 2.5m. High plinth. Part of right
return section is missing. Together with the left gatepier and attached wall
(q.v.) they form a large walled enclosure apprax. 35m. square, probably
originally a kitchen garden of Chesterton House, demolished in 1802.
