Methodist New Connexion chapel. 1785-6 with early to mid C19 organ
left wing to south side, and c. 1850-60 meeting room wing to west gable.
Thinly coursed rubble and hammer dressed stone. Quoins to main chapel.
Stone slate roof with gable copings on cut kneelers. Two storeys.
3 bays of square windows with glazing bars, to original north elevation.
Simple doorway on north side. Organ wing has round arched windows to
1st floor of side elevations. The meeting room wing is of 2 bays with
sashes. West gable has a Venetian window.
Interior: Broader-than-long plan. Gallery to 3 sides on wood columns
reached by stone stair in each gable end. Organ loft and choir stalls
at gallery level, through hole with cambered head pierced through
original wall of chapel, reached by stairs from choir vestry below.
Gallery pews original with high settle backs formerly with doors.
Those backing on to gangway have reel backs and those in the back row
have 'Chinese Chippendale' pierced openings to allow light from north
windows. Downstairs pews and high pulpit of fine quality pine c. 1860.
4 simply moulded roses to ceiling.
