Technical institute, now British Legion branch. 1903. By
J.J. Talbot. Stone, pebbledash 1st floor, hipped tile roof.
2 storeys, 5 bays. Top modillioned cornice with pedimented
gablets to central 3 bays. Ground floor has round-headed
windows of 3 lights with central sashes with glazing bars;
end bay has 3 windows, the central one segmental headed, all
are sashed with glazing bars. 1st floor has Diocletian
windows to central 3 bays, 3-light windows to end bays, all
with small-paned casements. Round-headed entrance has
segmental hood on Tuscan columns, half-glazed doorcase with
Ionic colonnettes and 6-panel door; fanlight has metal
grille with the words "HESKETH HALL". Roof has ventilation
drum with cupola on Tuscan columns, base is shingled. Right
return similar, lateral stack and 2-storey bay window with
swept segmental hood. Adjoining projecting 2-bay wing under
2 gables. Jettied gables have enriched frieze with animals,
birds, a ship and dated cartouche. 1st bay has 1st floor
jettied over 5-light rectangular bay window. 2nd bay has
large 2-storey canted bay window with cornice. 1st floor
has canted oriel with central round-headed light to 1st bay.
Roof has ogival cupola with louvred sides. Interior
altered, one room to wing has heavy timbers to roofs on
cambered tie beams and central posts.
