TM 15 SE SWILLAND NEWTON HALL ROAD

House. Mid C16 with alterations of early C17. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and
plastered with C20 pargetting in large panels. Plaintiled roof with internal
chimneys of red brick. C19 and C20 casements. Rear C20 boarded entrance
door. The mid C16 central core has massive upper floor members, arch-braced
close-studwork and unmoulded crownpost roof. At the east end is a lower and
wider cell of similar date, but built at a different stage. At the west end
is an early C17 parlour extension, and behind the hall/parlour chimney a
gabled staircase tower of the same date.
