TM 15 SE SWILLAND GRUNDISBURGH ROAD
1/18 Barn and stable, 50 metres
- north-west of Red Court
- II
Barn, late C16. 5 bays; a further 2 bays at south end, comprising a stable
with hay-loft above. Lean-to midstrey and other extensions of C19. Timber-
framed and weather-boarded; the original wattle-and-daub infill panels survive
in part. Roman pantiled roof. Good close-studwork with arch-type wind-
bracing. Wind-braced clasped-purlin roof. The upper floor over the stable
has good chamfered joists. A barn combined with stabling in a single range is
an unusual survival for Suffolk from as early as the C16.
