Description

WICKHAM SKEITH WICKHAM STREET
TM 06 NE
2/157 Barn 20m. east of Street
29.7.55 Farmhouse (formerly
listed with Street
Farmhouse)

GV II
Barn. Late C16. Timber framed, the lower portion rendered and tarred, with
weatherboarding above. Porch retains old tarred daub. Roof clad in
corrugated iron. Gabled porch to east with cart doors. Interior. An
exceptionally intact frame in 7 bays, with a mid rail and curved bracing
halved against the outside faces of the studs. Cart entry in 3rd bay from
south. The 2 northernmost bays were floored, and there is evidence for one
lower diamond-mullioned window opening. Some tie beams retain original curved
braces, the remainder replaced by knees. Intact roof, the bays following the
wall structure: butt and clasped purlins, with 2-way wind bracing. Porch is
C17-C18, replacing an earlier and probably original porch which was narrower.
