Two houses, built as one in late C14 or C15. Alterations of late C16 and mid
C20. One storey and attics; 2-storey crosswing to right. 3-cell plan.
Timber-framed and plastered. Concrete pantiled roof, formerly thatched; a mid
C20 raking dormer with casement. An axial chimney, the shaft rebuilt in C19
red brick. Mid C20 casements. The Cottage has a mid C20 half-glazed panelled
entrance door and slate-roofed porch. Wilwyn has a C19 panelled door at side
with a conservatory-porch of C20. The main range comprises an open hall whose
cross-entry was probably on the site of the chimney; a storeyed cell is at the
left hand end. The cross-wing (Wilwyn) is a remodelling of late C16,
employing base-crucks: a splayed scarf joint with undersquinted butts at this
end of the original structure indicates a possible C14 origin. Smoke-encrusted
coupled-rafter roof. Late C16 inserted 1st floor in hall, with chamfered
floor joists laid flat. Altered late C16 or early C17 lintelled fireplace in
the hall and an arched chamber fireplace in the crosswing.
