House
II
Public House. C17 and C18, timber framed and render and part painted brick.
Of basic 'L'-shaped plan form and largely of two storeys, but with single
storey extensions at rear and to the north-west. The main front has a parapeted
gable with stacks at the south-east end and a peg tile roof. This part has
2 double hung sash windows, each with 2 vertical glazing bars, and plastered
surrounds, on the first floor. Also a central painted plaster relief panel
depicting a bull. Beneath this a long painted timber sign board. On the ground
floor are 2 similar double hung sash windows and C20 entrance door with side
lights. To the north-east of this block, is a 2 storey C17 range at right
angles to the road with a gable to the front and rear. This has a C19 three
light casement in the attic over 2 small double hung sash windows. On the
ground floor is an early C19 canted bay with double hung sash windows with small
panes. This earlier block has a substantial red brick central ridgeline stack.
Some timber framing is exposed within. A large C19 gault brick chimney stack
with one battered face stands against later extensions to the side.
