Whitehouse Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. C16 and early C17, in 2 main phases; later alterations. Timber
framed, mostly encased in common brick in 1919; C19 red brick at rear.
Pantiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 2-cell main range with projecting
parlour cross-wing to left. C19 and mid C20 casement windows; segmental
lintols. Lobby entry: a lean-to porch formed by a continuation of the main
roof slope with half-glazed door. Heavy internal stack between hall and
parlour. Some C16 framing exposed internally. The parlour wing, probably
added in early C17, has cross-beamed ceilings to both main rooms and a good
intact roof structure with clasped and butt purlins and arched wind-bracing.
Newel stairs. The service end appears to be a later rebuilding or addition.
