Description

RATTLESDEN STOWMARKET ROAD
TL 95 NE
3/115 Brookvale Farmhouse
-
- II
Former farmhouse, early C17 with mid C19 alterations. 2 storeys and attics.
3-cell plan. Timber-framed and plastered. Plaintiled roofs with C19
decorative bargeboards. An axial chimney, the shaft rebuilt in C19 red brick.
C19 and C20 small-pane casements: some C17 diamond-mullioned windows are
exposed and glazed. A mid C19 extension of painted brick added to west side,
at which time the earlier walling was underbuilt in brick. Unmoulded framing
fully exposed internally: floor joists laid flat in the hall with chamfered
and unchamfered joists mixed - probably taken from a C16 building. Open
lintelled fireplaces.
