Symonds Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse, late C18, perhaps with earlier C18 core. Pretentious red brick
facade on 3 storeys masking a 2-span gable front slated roof. Main range 3
windows wide, flanked by 1-storey lean-to's with parapets, 1 window wide. A
brick pediment surmounts the central section, defined by carved brick dentils,
with blank roundel in tympanum. An urn stands on each end of the pediment. The
left hand lean-to is false with a dummy window, the right-hand one masks a
pantiled pantry. Casements with segmental brick heads. 6 fielded-panel
entrance door with matching panelled reveals, architrave and flat canopy. A mid
C18 type staircase in short flights through 3 floors at the rear, with turned
balusters. 6-panel doors, window shutters, a panelled corner cupboard. The
house is vacant and in poor condition.
