east of Uphampton Farmhouse

Barn. Early C17 with mid-C19 and late C20 alterations. Timber-framed and
weatherboarded on sandstone rubble base with corrugated metal roof. Five
framed bays aligned roughly north/south; wagon bays with opposed cart entries
in bays 2 and 4 from north end (blocked on west side and one metal door
inserted). Also inserted metal door at north end. Framing: three rows of
panels from sill to wall-plate. Roof structure has been partly repaired.
There is a collar and tie-beam truss with four struts beneath the collar
and a V-strut above the collar at the north end, a similar intermediate tie-
beam truss (with three struts to the collar) and three other intermediate
tie-beam trusses with raking struts. Two tiers of trenched purlins. The
rafters have all been renewed. Included for group value.
