Farmhouse. First half of C17, C19 alterations, C20 details. Timber framed and
brick structure. Brick infill, brick skin, C20 render, old tile roof. 2 storey
with attics. 5 bay house, single storey with attics, service wing at rear forming
'T' plan. Originally baffle entry plan, entrance replaced with window. Facade
has right hand replaced by C19 brick rebuild with single 3 sided canted bow.
Central gabled entrance bay and left bay with one ground and one first floor 2-light
2-pane casement. Central axial stack with 4 flues, 2" brick. Roof half hipped
at left. First floor return has exposed timber frame with 2" brick herring-bone
nogging infill. Tile hung dormer to axial staircase. Service wing has large
external lateral stack of Cl7. INTERIOR: substantial timber frame survival in left
hand of house, whole of service wing. Left hand bays have ground floor spine beam,
first and attic floor straight braces. Axial winder staircase with central
octagonal continuous newel, wide oak boards, survives from first floor to attic
within timber framed bay. Central 2" brick stack has 4-centred arched chamfered
fireplaces to both ground and both first floor rooms. 3 3-plank oak bound doors
with original hinges and some furniture. Rear service wing originally open hall
now ceiled with attic above. Stop chamfered spine beams, 2 substantial clasped
pegged purlin roof trusses. Bread oven. Blocked C17 2-light mullion window in
service bay to brick cellar under house.
