13/19 3 flights of steps and
gateway south east of
Luttrell's Tower
GV II
3 flights of steps and gateway at bottom. Circa 1930 possibly by Clough
Williams-Ellis. Stone steps and paving linking them, brick piers to
wrought iron gates. These steps traverse the low cliff immediately below
Luttrell's Tower (qv). Middle, main flight, are perron stairs, flanking a
large arch in front of entrance to passageway to cellar of Luttrell's
Tower. The parapet wall that runs on inside of stairs rises over archway
to accommodate armorial shield in stone. Top flight of 5 steps with lions
on side walls. Lowest flight is plain and of concrete. At bottom 4 brick
piers with ball-finials. Between central double gates and side pedestrian
gates. All quite ornate wrought iron work.
