LEIRE BROUGHTON LANE (West Side)
SP59 SW
3/32 Field Barn and Byre

II
Field barn and byre. Late C18. Mud with thatched roofs, covered in
corrugated sheeting. Byre is open to west, facing into the yard, and has mud
rear wall and part of one gable: the other is rebuilt in brick. Three bays,
with curved principal roof trusses, the wallplate supported on posts across
the open front. The barn is at right angles to this. All four walls survive
to their full height in mud, though the gable apexes are open: presumably
they were always thus since traces of timber plank walling remain below the
wood soffit boards. Central wide doors face onto yard (south side) and there
is a smaller door in rear elevation.
