Snarestone Pumping Station
GV II
Pumping Station of later C19. Red brick, English bond, in Gothic style,
with stone cornice, kneelers, coped gables, drip-moulds, label stops and
brick plinth with stone top moulding. Slate roof. Windows mostly
have brick lintels with chamfered sides and stone plate tracery. 2
parallel ranges, gables facing, with tall pump room to left side facing.
At left end of this, the principal entrance.8 stone steps lead to projecting
entrance surround with sloping stone roof and moulded stone door surround
with pilasters and columns with foliage capitals and segmental drop arch.
Door 2 leaved and part glazed. Over surround a 2-light window. Sides of
this range have 2 lancets each with stone inside frames and keystones. Front
of parallel ranges has 3-light with 1-light over to left and door with 2-light
over to right. Square chimney base set forward. Stone broach leads to c50
ft. octagonal flue with stone corbelled and embattled top. Right end has
similar doors and windows and rear has 2 double doors with segmental arches,
each with 2-light over. Interior: parallel ranges have iron frame roofs and
pump room has beamed ceiling, 2 iron columns, iron balustrading, 3 arch screen
and pistons and wheels.
